The Emotional Side Of Big Data

You sell data the same way you sell anything else: by building an emotional connection with the consumer. After all, it’s not the data itself that’s important so much as the ability to use that data to better target consumer audiences and optimize campaigns.

Alliant provides data and the insight behind using it effectively. They needed a web presence that did as much to highlight what could be done with the data as it did the variety and depth of the data they do track.

We steered the website to focus more on people and their behavior than numbers and charts.

Strategy & Planning

Before diving into new designs and prototypes, we started looking at data from their existing site: who was visiting, what were they looking for, and were they able to find it? What was working on the site? What wasn’t working on the site? What could we learn from the behaviors their audience had already formed?

We found that while Alliant had a lot of content on their site, users didn’t have a clear path to find exactly what they were looking for. Beyond changing the look and tone of the site, we wanted to restructure the content in order to create a better information hierarchy in an effort to determine what information a user needed to make an informed decision.

Design

Knowing the site would be content heavy, our solve had to be informative, welcoming and not overwhelming. The imagery and content had to work together to convey the brand message simply: Alliant ties predictive data and numbers with their human counterparts. Friendly images were paired with bold branded colors and clear headlines to create a unified visual language.

Alliant has years of expertise, a continuously growing proprietary database and an experienced analytical team, along with a varied roster of products and solutions to offer their customers. How could all of this be presented without long, technical, jargon-filled explainers? The solution was bold a single-page experience that explained at a high level how Alliant’s offerings fit together. Using color-coded blocks to guide the user, a series of micro-infographics, and clear content, we mapped out how customers benefit from their predictive data, powerful data science, and strategic insight.

Distinguishing The Products

Alliant offers six proprietary products for their clients, covering different sales channels, media, and use cases. While the names of each product hint at the nature of the solution, we provided quick explanations on the product overview page and deeper dives on the individual pages. We also included accessible CTAs and relevant content, like product-specific case studies and white papers, datacards, and other downloads that provide helpful supporting information for users
