FAQS

Small Business Web Design FAQ.

Have questions about web design for small and midsize businesses? We do our best to answer them here.

Our average small and midsized business website redesign averages $50,000-$100,000 based on the size and complexity of the site. This is inclusive of a two-day strategy workshop, full UI/UX design, custom theme development, content writing, and on-site SEO. For a more accurate estimate, be sure to check out our project calculator.

If you're not looking to redesign your entire small and midsized business website and would rather work on your existing website, we offer Grow packages starting at $5,000/month. You can find out more about that here.

Everyone has different business goals. Here's how we typically decide what service our clients are a better fit for:

Build engagements are best for small and midsize businesses undergoing a major rebranding, looking to migrate from a different content management system (CMS) or have larger, structural issues with their current ecommerce site.

Grow engagements are best for small and midsize businesses that have an established website they’re comfortable with and are looking to increase conversions, sales, and improve overall customer experience.

Our small and midsized business website design company has designed a 6-month roadmap to study your website traffic, observe issues/opportunities with user experience, identify quick wins, and systematically execute and measure improvements to the site.

Month 1 - CRO Audit

Through a mix of user testing and data analysis, we'll perform a CRO audit of your current small business website design. We'll focus on mobile, desktop, and performance opportunities. Some of the key things we'll identify are:

  • Priority levels
  • Problems/opportunities
  • Potential solutions
  • Issue types (design, technical, conversion, internal)
  • Bucket (quick win, test, other)

Month 2 - Roadmap + Quick Wins

Our teams will collaborate by taking our findings and creating a 6 month Grow roadmap. From this, you'll have a clear understanding of where we're going to have the biggest impact. This month we'll also focus on executing the quick wins adjustments.

Months 3 - 6 - Improvements, Testing, and Reporting

Our dedicated team of experts will systematically perform conversion tests and make website improvements that result in higher conversions and increased revenue. Walking you through the how, why, and impact, every step of the way.

Timeline & Budget

Our Build engagements typically last 4-6 months and cost $50,000-$100,000 USD.

Project Kick-off

We start with an in-person or virtual project kick-off that often takes place over the course of 1-2 days. In this kick-off, our team will perform a series of exercises to better understand your brand, your customers, current challenges with your existing online store, and goals for future growth. We'll also dig into things like website structure, categorization, marketing automation, and design.

Strategy & Design

We'll then create a series of documents such as a key takeaways document, user personas, user flow charts, initial website wireframes, color palette and color scheme, and mood boards.

Based on our research and observed user behavior we'll iterate with your team in a collaborative fashion to create a small and midsized business website design that both you, and your customers will love.

Development & QA

After we've both arrived at a point with the visual design where we're completely satisfied we'll transition over to development. Our small and midsized business website design team creates comprehensive visual guidelines for our development team to execute.

Our approach to QA has five layers:

  • A round of technical QA performed by your web developer.
  • A round of visual QA performed by your UI/UX designer
  • A round of functional QA performed by a quality analyst
  • A round of holistic QA performed by our broader team
  • A round of holistic QA performed by your team

This multi-layered approach ensures our website's launch and performs flawlessly day one.

Absolutely!

Our website design company helps small and midsize businesses migrate between different CMS’s quite frequently.

Our experts will handle the data migration of posts, custom post types, taxonomies, users, as well as third-party integrations with your CRM, ATS, IMS, and other order management systems.

If you're just launching your small and midsize business, we can assist with your website setup, website maintenance, and consult on best practices.

We predominantly design small and midsized business websites for SaaS companies, industrial/manufactures, professional services, real estate and technology companies but have experience across a number of other categories.

To get a better sense of who we’ve worked with, check out our client list.

Currently, we offer a limited range of digital marketing services including:

    • Paid advertising (Google, Facebook, Instagram)
  • Search engine optimization

We are a website design and development agency first and foremost, but we collaborate with a variety of partners who specialize in areas such as digital strategy, marketing automation, graphic design, social media and content marketing.

We're also totally comfortable collaborating with your existing teams and ongoing marketing strategy.

We have a few different precautions in place to ensure the small and midsize business websites we build are safe:

  • All employees use password encryption to receive and share log-in information
  • We limit the number of third-party plug-ins to there bare minimum
  • Core and plug-in updates are performed frequently to mitigate the risk of vulnerabilities
  • Third-party traffic intermediaries (such as CloudFlare) are used to block and prevent malicious attacks on the site.

Small and midsize business websites need SSL certificates to keep user data secure, verify ownership of the website, prevent attackers from creating a fake version of the site, and convey trust to potential clients.

Anyone who wants to build a website needs web hosting to store their website's files and make them accessible for visitors worldwide. There are different types of website hosting to choose from, and the right option for your project relies on your budget and preferences.

A hosting company owns and operates servers in data centers, which are typically located in geographically diverse locations around the world. When you purchase a hosting plan from a hosting provider, you are essentially renting server space from them.

All websites are different. That’s why there are different servers to meet their needs.

There are four main types of web hosting:

  • Shared hosting
  • VPS (virtual private server) hosting
  • Dedicated hosting
  • Cloud hosting.

The cost of a website can vary depending on the type of hosting used. Shared hosting is the most cost-effective option, as it allows multiple websites to be hosted on the same server.

Domain names and web hosting services are two different things that work together to make websites possible. Basically a domain name system is like a massive address book that is constantly updated. Behind each domain name, there is an address of the web hosting service storing the website’s files.

You need both to have a functioning website. Domain names are essential for people to find your site, and web hosting is necessary to actually store and serve your website’s files.

Yes, we offer long-term website support. In fact, over 90% of our website redesign clients transition into long-term support clients.
