The Reviews Are In: April’s Free Website Review Wednesday Recap

Image with this quote: “I reached out to Jeff for a free website analysis, and I was thoroughly impressed with his level of detail, the reasoning behind each suggestion, and the value he was able to provide me in just under 10 minutes.”

Once a month, on a Wednesday, our website design agency offers free website reviews to our followers.

Here are some highlights from April’s Website Review Wednesday.

Cole Metals’ Free Website Review

The headline “Delivering the Certainty of Gold in the Most Uncertain of Times” is an excellent choice for the first words users will see when entering the website. There are many people that are concerned with the traditional markets. The ups and downs have caused reason for uncertainty about whether or not everyone will be able to live off what they have saved.

Because the uncertainty in traditional markets is such a vital problem that they are addressing, it would be beneficial to communicate it more throughout the rest of the website. This could be easily inserted in the supporting copy on the rest of the homepage.

The header of this website makes it very clear what they do, which is essential to avoid any confusion or forcing their visitors to search to find out what kind of company they are. But based on the nature of the company, the header would be much more powerful if a statistic was included.

In addition, it would be helpful to state that they increase sales “by ___ on average” or even include the types of customers that the business is aiming to work with. That way, the copy is not just more enticing but also very specific in what they can do for their customer and what type of customers can benefit from their services.

When users first visit the website, there are a couple of needed tweaks that stand out right away in the header section. The proportion of the graphic, its positioning, and its end scale in relationship to the text and overall screen is fairly small. This creates a little too much negative space, particularly in contrast to the text, which feels condensed and squished.

To address this, it would be advantageous to play around with the graphic, perhaps scaling it up further or having it cut off on the side of the page slightly, adding more space between one of the lines.

The headline itself is very specific about what they do, but it has so much information that it ends up being clunky. Instead, they could remove “mid-senior” from the headline and keep it as “Effortless Productivity for Busy Team Leaders.”

Finally, CTAs are meant to stand out as a clear path forward. The CTA on this website is gray, which is generally the color that signifies when something cannot be interacted with. It also blends in with the background, making it easy to miss. Instead, it would be extremely helpful to utilize the gold highlight color for the buttons to make them more obvious. Improving these elements can help attract more customers by making the website more user-friendly.

At the very top of the website, there is an animated side-scrolling list of company names. While this is visually intriguing, it does require more context for it to be fully effective. It’s going to be essential to give an indication of whether these companies are partners or clients for visitors to fully understand and build trust through this display.

Further down the page, there are a series of icons to accompany the benefits of working with the company. While this is a great idea, the icons would benefit greatly from being in a consistent art style. These types of details are essential for presenting the company as a polished, well-tuned brand.

The photography toward the top of the page is phenomenal, which is why it should be displayed as the visitor’s first impression. The top of the page would improve from a restructure that either shrunk the content on the top or moved the photograph further toward the top. It could be used either as a full background or on the right-hand side with an opening statement on the left-hand side.

This statement could be used to describe what type of photography the business specializes in and the type of customer that they want to engage. This could be lifestyle photography, wedding photography, or any niche that the business provides for.

There is a lot of white space around the header that could be condensed for easier, more immediate access to the rest of the content on the homepage. As for the header itself, it could give more information about what the business actually does. Currently, it seems like the only service they offer is accounting.

It would be a huge missed opportunity not to make it obvious from the very start all of the services that they offer. A secondary line after the first would easily be able to provide more context to what they do while still keeping the creativity and integrity of the original header. Improving this can help generate more leads by making it clear what services are available, attracting additional business opportunities and potential customers.
